Do I have to sit in the walk-in bath while it fills and drains?

Yes, with most walk-in baths, you’ll need to be inside the bath while it fills and also remain seated while it drains, but modern designs make this as quick and comfortable as possible.

Because walk-in baths have a watertight door, you’ll need to step in while the bath is empty and remain seated as it fills with water. Likewise, at the end of your bath, you’ll need to wait for it to fully drain before opening the door and stepping out. This is completely normal and an important safety feature to prevent leaks and spills.

How long does it take?

  • Filling: Most modern walk-in baths are fitted with high-flow taps to speed up the filling process. Depending on your water pressure, filling the bath usually takes around 4–8 minutes.

  • Draining: Fast-drain technology means most walk-in baths will empty in around 2–4 minutes—often faster than a standard bath thanks to larger waste outlets.

While you’re waiting, you’ll be seated comfortably on a specially designed chair-height seat, with a warm-touch surface to prevent chills. Some baths even offer heated seats and other extras for extra comfort.

Is it uncomfortable to wait?
Not at all. The seat is designed for support, and you can start relaxing as soon as the water covers your legs. Many people use this time to unwind, enjoy the warm water, or simply read or listen to music. The process is safe, and you’re never left waiting for long.
